Risto Ojala, Aalto University
Aalto collaboration with CERN on mobile robotics & overview of related 
research

Risto Ojala serves as an assistant professor in the Mechatronics 
research group in Aalto University. He leads the Autonomy & Mobility 
Laboratory, focusing on research of autonomous and intelligent mobile 
machines. His talk will present a review of the recent advances and 
technologies currently applied in mobile robotics, especially on the 
perception and sensing side. Additionally, he will present findings from 
the lab's collaboration with the CERN robotics group. The collaboration 
has aimed towards improving teleoperation and autonomous functionalities 
of the CERN robotics solutions, targeted mainly for maintenance and 
inspection. Successful examples of collaboration include advanced 
mapping & navigation solutions, as well as an enhanced teleoperation 
user-interface.
