Welcome to the University of Jyväskylä physics colloquium.
On Friday 3rd March at 10 am in FYS1 and Zoom [https://jyufi.zoom.us/j/66703175507] (passcode 890524):
Tomas Lindèn, University of Helsinki
Privately funded fusion research - A faster way to fusion energy?
There has been privately funded fusion research for about twenty years. The number of companies has grown during this time from a few to about thirty. In the last few years, the amount of total funding to privately funded fusion companies has increased significantly. In 2021 Helion Energy received 0.5 GUSD and Commonwealth Fusion Systems got 1.8 GUSD in funding.
Zap Energy is currently running the experiment they aim to demonstrate Q=1 with and other companies are building their next devices with similar goals. A new feature is that traditional energy companies are also funding fusion research and development. According to surveys conducted by the Fusion Industry Association in 2021 and 2022 most private fusion companies expect fusion energy production to start in the 2030:s. In this talk an overview of a few of these fusion companies is presented.
Welcome!
Coffee will be served in the lobby. Although on-site attendance is the preferred option, you can also join via Zoom.
Do you wish to suggest further topics for the colloquium? You can do so at Café JYFL [https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/ap/w-59584e83/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fjyu.sharepoint.com%2F%3Aw%3A%2Fr%2Fsites%2FCafJYFLDepartmentofPhysics%2FJaetut%2520asiakirjat%2FGeneral%2FPhysics%2520colloquium%2520ideas.docx%3Fd%3Dw888a107ea28543c7a9bc331f12a99995%26csf%3D1%26web%3D1%26e%3Dr5iubT&data=05%7C01%7Ctero.t.heikkila%40jyu.fi%7Cf748b31fc2c24dc49e7808db08febd6b%7Ce9662d58caa44bc1b138c8b1acab5a11%7C1%7C0%7C638113662412850816%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=qyAjPsEudF0539FwikoftB34Gyvqjl%2Bb4O5JTbvZnm0%3D&reserved=0].
There are still many open slots (and budget) for the Spring, so suggestions are welcome.
